Not a Super Return

It's not a bad movie. Not with Bryan Singer at helm. But for me it could have been better.

Brandon Routh (I heard Routh is pronounced as 'South') is definitely Superman. Kate Bosworth is definitely Lois Lane. Kevin Spacey is the sadistic Lex Luther Lex Luthor. Cyclops (James Mardsen) is the boy who sadly, has to wear the green hat. The characters are all good, but some were underused.

The movie is more character-driven, which is quite unexpected. And it's more of a love story.

The one and only truly memorable scene is the one between Lex Luthor and Superman. Everything was like at the top of the graph, and then suddenly it freefalls to the bottom. I watched that scene with my jaw half-opened.

At 2 hours 30 minutes and more, it feels just right. But the pacing at some parts were rushed. Some were slow but it's those good kind of slow.

Ultimately, Superman Returns is unfulfiling. It almost grabs you but it didn't. However, it definitely sets up for a better sequel. Superman Returns is still one of the better movies and is one that is not to be missed.
