Dead Man's Chest

Surprisingly, Dead Man's Chest is as good as the original.

From start till end (stay till the credits end for a really funny scene), Dead Man's Chest entertains. The comedy is there, the action never gets boring (except the sword fights, which gets repetitive), and the production values are excellent.

What makes the first part so good was Jack Sparrow. As usual, Johnny Depp puts in a great performance. While the rest of the cast are good, they are usually eating his dust. Orlando Bloom will never be a main star of a film. Keira Knightley is a chiobu and when she dons the pirate hat it makes her even more a chiobu. The only other character that stands out is Davy Jones. His on-screen presence makes you fear him just like how Jack Sparrow fears him. I also like Bill Turner's cameo appearance.

The makeup and special effects are also another main highlight of the movie. Davy Jones and his crew never looked like they are wearing any costumes.

If you have watched the first part, you will also notice some references to it.

Some hated the ending. But I think it was quite okay and was quite surprised by it too. The third part, At World's End, will be released next year.
